Tanya Bezdudnaya has a paper now online that documents the extent of spontaneous plasticity that can occur following pre-clinical SCI
Hot off the press!
The first in a series of papers from our team that will be coming out in 2018:
Integration of Transplanted Neural Precursors with the Injured Spinal Cord. - PubMed - NCBI https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29295654
Podcast Interview
Michael speaks with Matthew Rodreick and Kate Willette from Unite 2 Fight Paralysis on their latest podcast release. Check it out at here
Dr. Victoria Spruance
Congratulations to Dr Victoria Spruance for an outstanding presentation defending her thesis research. We are all extremely proud of all you have achieved and excited to see your future successes.
Matthew Rodreick visiting Philadelphia
It was a pleasure hosting Matthew Rodreick from Unite 2 Fight Paralysis in our lab yesterday!
Roman Reed
Many thanks to Roman Reed for making time to spend the whole day with me in San Francisco. Great discussions and great planning session.
ISNR 2017, California
In the last week of November, our research team attended the biennial International Symposium on Neural Regeneration. It was an excellent meeting as always! Great to speak with so many people within the field! Congratulations also go to Lana Zholudeva for winning a presentation award for her research on transplantation of V2a spinal interneurons to repair the injured cervical spinal cord.
Washington, DC
It was a great week for science last week, when our research team attended the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting, and the 10th annual satellite meeting on Motor Systems. Thanks to all those who made time to meet with us, discuss our research and share their latest results.
Congratulations Lana Zholudeva
Congratulations to Lana Zholudeva for being awarded the 2017 Dean's Fellowship for Excellence in Collaborative or Themed Research!
Research funding for cell therapy research
Our research team was awarded funding from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation and the Lisa Dean Moseley Foundation, to pursue cell therapy studies for promoting spinal cord repair. Our many thanks to these foundations for supporting our research!
Neuroscience Summer Camp 2017
Drexel University, College of Medicine holds a Neuroscience Summer Camp for high school juniors and sophomore students, who demonstrate a strong interest in neuroscience research. The Camp teaches students neurobiology and offers the opportunity to gain hand-on experience with ongoing research.
Each year, a group of students works with the Lane Lab research team on a spinal cord injury research project. This years team of students used viral tracing methods to examine the phrenic neuronal circuitry within the normal and injured spinal cord.
Hot off the press!
Lana Zholudeva published results now showing that spinal V2a interneurons are recruited into injured pathways after spinal cord injury. Ongoing work now aims to harness therapeutically target this cell type.
Stem Cell Research Meeting 2017
Michael Lane spoke at the first Stem Cell Research Meeting hosted by Roman Reed at the Gladstone Institutes in California. Great day of science and discussion driving research forward to more effective clinical translation.
Hot off the Press
New paper released by Tanya Bezdudnaya from our research team, shows that spinal cord injury affects function of respiratory cells in the brainstem soon after injury. We don't yet know how this might affect recovery of breathing after injury

Hot off the Press
This new paper explores projections coming into the spinal cord that are asscoiated with the phrenic motor system, which may represent a target for enhancing plasticity
